DAY 01: ARRIVAL PARO 2250 m

Upon your arrival at Paro airport, you’ll be welcomed by our local tour executive and then transfer you to your hotel. Soon after a short break you’ll be led for a short introductory sightseeing inside Paro valley. There’re several fascinating places to explore and a half or a day is not enough to cover them all. However, here is some must to visit, explore and discover places inside Paro valley. The Paro Rinpung Dzong, National Museum, and Dumtse Lhakhang are some historical monuments.

DAY 02: TAKTSHANG HIKE 2950 m 04 km 04 hr

Tiger’s nest is one of the most important Buddhist goemba in the entire Himalayas, located on a cliff face at 3100m above sea level. Hike up to this dazzling goemba is quite an uphill task and takes around 3-4 hours at an average speed. Ugyen Guru Padmasambhava founded the site in the 8th century. Your local guide will give you loads of information about the goemba.

DAY 03: HOTEL – SHARNA – THANGTHANKA 3570 m 16 km 07 hr

After your early breakfast in the hotel drive to Sharna village at the northern head of Paro valley. Your trek starts form this point and following the opposite direction of Paro Chhu River. As you continue you’ll encounter numerous small ups and down trail, walking through rich forest of pine, oak, fir and rhododendron trees. Leaving the dense forest you then enter a wide-open ground with breathtaking view of the barren landscape. Your campsite is located in a big ground surrounded by scattered trees. From here you’ll have the first glimpse of mount Jomolhari looming at the valley head.

DAY 04: THANGTHANKA – JANGOTHANG 4080 m 15 km 06 hr

Early wake up you can enjoy the breathtaking view of Jomolhari bathing in its morning sun. After breakfast continue your trek through opposite direction of the river. From this stretch yaks and yak herders house scattered throughout becomes a regular feature. Enjoy the full view of Jomolhari after your arrival at the base camp. Jangothang campsite is one of the most beautiful campsites in the entire Himalayas.

DAY 05: JANGOTHANG HALT

Today you’ll just spent time resting in the camp. If you’re curious to do something, there’re several possible hiking areas. Our best recommendation is to walk up to Tshophu Lake. This spot provide a breathtaking view of several mountain peaks including the Jomolhari, neighboring Jichu Drakey and Tsherimgang in the further north. The lake is stunningly beautiful with backdrop view of the peaks.

DAY 06: JANGOTHANG – LINGSHI 4010 m 18 km 08 hr

Our advice for you is to make a little early start, since you have a long climb to make on this day. The trek up to Nylila Pass (4870m) is quite long and tiring and takes around 3 to 4 hours. The ascent takes you through breathtaking landscape and the surrounding peaks. There are chances of spotting the Himalayan blue sheep somewhere grazing on the far away mountain slope. Once you’re on the top of the pass the view of the landscape is truly alluring and worth taking dozens of pictures. From here the trail winds downhill with patches of stones and rough trail. As you continue your downhill walk you then take in the view of Lingshi Dzong in a far away distance with its backdrop view of Tsherimgang.

DAY 07: LINGSHI – CHEBISA 3880 m 10 km 05 hr

Once you hit the trail make the short uphill climb to visit Lingshi Dzong located on a small hilltop with its commanding view of the surrounding landscape. After Lingshi dzong you will come across a small village from where the trail hits uphill to a ridge standing at 4140m. From the ridge you descent down to Goyul village, leaving this small village you’ll come across several ascent and descent trail that finally leads to your campsite. Early arrival at your campsite, make a short exploratory walk along the village and then head further behind the village to see the stunning waterfall.  

DAY 08: CHEBISA – SHOMUTHANG 4220 m 15 km 07 hr

We suggest you to make an early start since your trek form the wide pastureland towards Gobula pass (4510m) another tiring climb and take around 3 hours. As you’re on the uphill climb there is chances of sighting the Himalayan blue sheep just above the trail, the banded vulture and Himalayan griffons can be seen too. Yaks and yak herders camps are regular feature along the trail. From the pass you decent down through rhododendron bushes to a small stream, crossing the stream you then ascent through cedar forest and then descent to a large U-shape valley. Leaving the valley you gradually ascent to your campsite at Shomuthang.

DAY 09: SHOMUTHANG – ROBLUTHANG 4160 m 16 km 08 hr

The trek begins with an uphill climb to Jarila pass (4750m). The top is breathtakingly beautiful whiles taking in the view of mount Khangbum. On a clear day you can also view Gangchenta, Tsherimgang and tip of Jomolhari in a far distance. After taking in the site the trail gradually decent to Tserijathang pastureland – the summer grazing ground for Takin (the national animal of Bhutan). These animals migrate here during summer and remain here for nearly 4 months. From this pastureland you then make a shot climb through rocky meadow to your campsite.

DAY 10: ROBLUTHANG – LIMITHANG 4460 m 18 km 08 hr

We ask you to make an early start since the climb up to Sinchela pass (5005m) is quite long and hair-raising climb. The pass is one among the highest pass and takes around 5 hours to make it to the top from the base. Take in the sights of the stunning landscape from the top and gradually descent down with glimpses of terminal moraine and Glacier Lake at the foot of the valley. You’ll reach a small stream after leaving the rocky trail and glacier valley, which takes another small uphill climb through rhododendron forest interspersed small meadow and gradually reach your campsite.

DAY 11: LIMITHANG – LAYA 3840 m 11 km 05 hr

Comparing to your previous trail, this trail is quite easy and a pleasant one. Your trek begins with a downhill walk through narrow and winding river valley and through dense forest with moss. Along the trail you’ll enjoy seeing different species of birds and hear their enchanting voice. As you near Laya the view of Gangchenta and Masagang raise their presence. Reaching Laya you’ll see your camp set just below the school. This tiny village is quite unique and it is the second highest settlement in Bhutan. 

DAY 12: LAYA HALT

Rest day at Laya is quite interesting because you get to see and explore the unique culture of this nomad people. This semi-nomadic people especially the women are completely different from other women in term of their dress code and their conch shape bamboo hat and they are great lover of coral and turquoise jewelry.

DAY 13: LAYA – RHODOPHU 4120 m 19 km 08 hr

From the camp you gradually decent down to an army camp and then walk through following the river. After few hours the trail leads through rhododendron bushes and finally to your campsite at Rhodophu.

DAY 14: RHODOPHU – NARETHANG 4900 m 17 km 07 hr

After following the river for an hour the trail soon pick up through a steady slope to a high open valley at 4600m and then to Tshomola pass (4900m). From the pas you’ll enjoy a superb view of Lunana village with its backdrop view of snowcapped mountain peak. Heading down the pass the trail gradually open to a flat and barren plateau at about 5000m. From here you’ll soon reach your campsite with its background view of Ganglakarchung looming at the valley head.

DAY 15: NARITHANG – TARINA 3900 m 18 km 08 hr

As soon as you leave the camp the trail gently ascent for an hour to Ganglakarchung pass (5120m). From the pass you’ll have immense opportunities to sight the alluring view of the Himalayan mountain peaks including Jejekhangphugang, Tsendengang and Terigang along with superb landscape. Descending from the pass you reach a large moraine with stunning view of glaciers falling down from Terigang to a deep turquoise late at its foot. From here a long decent through thick rhododendron forest gradually leads you to your campsite.

DAY 16: TARINA – WOCHE 4150 m 17 km 07 hr

Leaving the camp the trail push you down through rich forest of conifer trees. You’ll follow the upper ridge of Pho Chhu River with an impressive view of waterfall. Crossing over the ridge you’ll gradually descent to Woche a small settlement and the first village of Lunana after leaving Laya.

DAY 17: WOCHE – LHEDI 3700 m 17 km 07 hr

Today you’ll traverse through rich forest of fir, juniper and rhododendron bushes and gradually ascent to Kechela pass (4650m). From the pass you’ll enjoy lavishing view of the surrounding mountain peaks and the landscape. Descending down to the river you’ll come across a small village with fascinating view of Table Mountain and finally gets to Lhedi village where you see your campsite.

DAY 18: LHEDI – THANZA 3970 m 17 km 08 hr

Taking in the view of Table mountain you’ll come across a small Chozo village height at an altitude of 4090m with a small dzong (fort) which is still in use by local people of the village. From here a long stretch with a view of high wall snow and ice behind the village gradually takes you to Thanza.

DAY 19: REST DAY AT THANZA

It is time now to take a break and indulge your visual senses with some natural beauty and give yourself some time to relax and soak in the atmosphere surrounded by mountains. Curious trekkers can choose to go up the ridge and enjoy fascinating view of the surrounding glacier lake with its backdrop view of high mountains or else you can go around the village to explore the unique culture of the nomad people and learn about their culture, history and traditions.

DAY 20: THANZA – TSHOCHENA 5000 m 18 km 08 hr

Leaving the camp you walk towards south of Thanza and ascent a ridge. From the ridge you gradually descent to Danje (4500m). In this area there is chances of sighting herds of Himalayan blue sheep grazing on the other side of mountain slope.  From Danje the trail crosses the creek and soon ascent to Jazela pass (5150m), with spectacular view of the surrounding mountain peaks. Descending down toward other side of the pass you’ll encounter several views of snowcapped peaks along with a couple of lakes. The campsite is located close to Tshochena Lake.

DAY 21: TSHOCHENA – JICHU DRAMO 5020 m 15 km 07 hr

The trail takes you along the bank of a blue green lake and gradually ascent to a steep rolling slope and a narrow valley with dwarf rhododendron to Jojula pass (5145m). It is a hard and long walk and takes around 4 hours to reach the top. Reaching the top the view of Lunana is breathtakingly beautiful. From the top you’ll wind your way through several ridge and then reach a wide glacier valley. From here you gradually descent to your campsite wedged between expansive rocks and trickling streams.

DAY 22: JICHU DRAMO – CHUKARPO 4410 m 15 km 06 hr

Leaving the camp the trail takes you through a lunar landscape of rocks, lakes, glacier and snowy summit. Make a little early start since the climb up to Rinchen Zoela pass (5326m) is quite long and tiring one. It is the highest pass on this trek. The top is unlike any other pass you have encountered – offering unmatched mountain scenery with breathtaking view of Gangkar Puensum, the highest peak in Bhutan and the highest unclimbed peak in the world. You can also sight a vast glacier lakes running down from the series of Snowy Mountain into a glacier lake. Descending down the vegetation gets change and soon you’ll experience thick air to breath. After a couple of hour you’ll reach your campsite just beside a moraine and a hooping rocks.

DAY 23: CHUKARPO – TAMPETSHO 4330 m 18 km 09 hr

The trail begins with a downhill walk towards a river and soon after crossing the river you follow the main valley. The trail wave in and out through several boulders and gradually enters a dense forest of pine, rhododendron, birch and maple trees. Leaving behind the thick forest the trail winds up to a narrow valley to a hanging lake with beautiful campsite.

DAY 24: TEMPETSHO – MARUTHANG 3630 m 16 km 06 hr

Your trek begins with a downhill walk through steep winding slope and past a large turquoise lake and gradually ascent to Tempela pass (4665m). This is the last pass on this trek. Descending down from the pass the trail gradually traverse through a fair level terrain and through rich forest and yak pasture. 

DAY 25: MARUTHANG – SEPHU – PUNAKHA 19 km 07 hr

The trail takes you through following Nika Chhu River traversing through lush green forest and gradually enters a large grassy land overlooking the road and Sephu village. Arrival at the road head, here you bid adieu to your helpful trekking team. Soon after the short refreshment you’ll head towards your destination.

DAY 26: PUNAKHA – PARO 132km 03 hr

In the morning before you depart to Paro make a short visit to the historical Punakha Dzong. It is one of the most beautiful and the second mightiest dzong in the country. It dates back to 1637. After the dzong drive to Sobsokha village and make a short hike up to the popular Chemi Lhakhang (no dogs temple) located on a small hilltop. It dates back to 15th century and revered by many Bhutanese for its fertility gift. After the temple you then drive straight to Paro. If time permits you can take in the sights of Thimphu upon your arrival there.

DAY 27: HOTEL – AIRPORT

After your leisurely breakfast in the hotel drive straight to the airport and depart to your onward destination. Before you get into the airport here you bid adieu to your helpful Bhutanese guide and drive and then proceed inside.
